Expansion-cum-Diversification Project (EDP) - Overview:

  • Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by an international consultant, M/s Jaakko Poyry Management Consulting, Finland.
  • HNL approached Government of Kerala in connection with various assistance and infrastructure support needed for the successful implementation of the project.
  • Hon.Chief Minister of Kerala convened a meeting of the concerned Group of Ministers to consider the requirements.
  • GoK assured support for the project and a high level committee was constituted to look into the details of HNL’s requirements for the project viz,raw materials,infrastructure facilities etc.
  • GoK already agreed for free draw of water from the existing source.
  • Proposal submitted to Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises (HI&PE, administrative ministry) for consideration and onward submission to Public Investment Board (PIB) and then to Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA),GoI for final approval.

Completion of EDP would enable HNL to become:

  • A dominant player in the Indian Pulp & Paper Industry with a wide range of product grades from Newsprint to premium film coated varieties
  • Rs 900 Cr. entity with country-wide market presence
  • Total production capacity of 280,000 MT per annum – scales which are comparable with the best players in the industry

HNL solicits the pro-active support of the media fraternity in favorably shaping up the opinion in the public domain by way of building mass awareness for its agenda, which combine social and economic imperatives – farm forestry, purchase at gate and waste paper collection schemes, and also to act as facilitating reagents for the initiation, implementation & completion of its ambitious Expansion cum Diversification Project.
